A Designer Looks at Art, Architecture and Everything
We’ve been looking for a pair of adjustable reading lamps for a couple of living room chairs. Looked at the Tolomeo but decided against it. We went with the Bill (new) floor lamps as we liked the maneuverability of the head and the warmer quality of the light produced. I’ll take pictures once we have them installed. The Seattle Blizzard v.2008 punished us for the last 2 weeks. For a variety of reasons we’ve postponed our annual sojourn down under until late in 2009. Thinking about the sun and sand at Bondi sounds good right now … which made me think of this great swimsuit brand, Hotel Bondi Swim.
Pier was recently awarded “National Restaurant of the Year” and ‘Three Stars’ by Australian Gourmet Traveller 2008. We had a fantastic meal here about a year ago – arguably it was one of the best meals we’ve had in Sydney. Incredible, meticulous preparation that never gets in the way or is heavy-handed. Pier states they have specially trained fishermen sourcing their ingredients. Highly recommended.

We had a great lunch at Fratelli Fresh. High ceilings and lots of natural light make for a great space. It’s popular so get there fairly early or be prepared to queue. The Italian menu had a number of kid friendly choices. Recommended for a casual, delicious lunch. After you arrive give yourself some time to roam around the italian edibles upstairs prior to dining. Then peruse the fresh ingredients downstairs before you depart.

Last time I was in London I stopped in to visit the Tanner Krolle boutique. Bags and accessories in their trademark colors were elegantly positioned in windows and around the shop. The bags are extremely well made with minimalist detailing. A bag like the Large Holdall would probably last you a lifetime. For me, the hardest part would be deciding on a color.

I’ve always thought the existing Museum of Contemporary Art in Sydney looked a little rigid; the building could do with an injection of modern architecture.
